Child-Centered Play Therapy

Why Child-Centered Play Therapy?

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is designed for children ages 3–10 who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or relational disorders. In CCPT, a child's experience with the therapeutic relationship is the factor that is most healing and meaningful in creating lasting, positive change. Based on person-centered principles, the goal of CCPT is to help the child reach their fullest potential.  Play is used as a way to communicate feelings, solve problems, and learn skills in CCPT because children are experts in play and are not always experts with using thier words.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

AKA Talk Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy approrpiate for children, adolescents, teens, and adults.  CBT relies on talking as a form of communication during the therapy session.  CBT focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts.  Although this type of therapy relies on talking as a form of communication, often during these sessions our therapists will engage a non-adult client in a game, use art, or provide items to fidget with while talking.

Parent/Guardian Support

You Matter Too

We care about your child, but you play an important role in your child's life.   Studies show that treatment outcomes are more effective when parents/guardians are involved.  We meet with parents/guardians to talk about what can be done outside of the therapy session and of course, to be a support for you if you need it. Your child does not need to be in therapy with one of our providers to get support for yourself.  Sometimes we find that parents/guardians feel like they want therapy for themselves.  It is not uncommon to become triggered or unraveled when raising children because some of our issues come up or even resurface.
